Welcome Crackling Pig

Yes you heard correctly. Little Rascals has a new family member (albeit only temporarily). In November we acquired a miniature pig whom we've nicknamed "Crackling". Crackling is on loan to us from a farm in little river and has fast become a valued and rather spoilt member of the pack.

Crackling has been a delight. The children have learnt a lot about looking after a pet pig. They take turns filling her food/water bowls,

they attentively make sure she's comfortable in her pen or she's smothered with sunscreen and she gets plenty of pats and cuddles.

She spends most of her time relaxing in the garden; sunbaking, digging or chasing poor Miss Daisy, but we've also taken her for walks on the lead and the odd wagon ride to our local cafe.

Now before you go thinking we must be in some amazing rural part of Australia I should remind everyone we are in Brighton East an inner city suburb or Melbourne, where unfortunately pet pigs aren't allowed to be kept 😢So unfortunately Crackling is with us only for a short time. However it has been such a rewarding and invaluable experience and I hope this can be part of an annual spring or summer project & I encourage all family daycare educators and families to consider welcoming a pet pig into your home, well that's if you're half as crazy as me.

Much love, Bon & the Little Rascals
